ARRI (The Aquatic Resources Research Institute, Chulalongkorn University) was started as a research station and student training center of the Department of Marine Science, Faculty of science, Chulalongkorn University. Consequently, establishment of a Marine Science Research Station and Training Center (SMaRT) at Sichang Island, Chonburi province in 1979 lead to the founded of the Aquatic Resources Research Institute by a royal decree announced in the Royal Gazetteer on April 26, 1991. As a result of the increasing importance role of aquatic resources in national economic development and solving the problems of degradation and conservation of natural resources, the teaching and learning process at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
